This is a response to straight fracture planes on a cliff face. The blocks of slate had sheared off in rectangular sections and I have tried to capture the shapes and shadows in a small piece which seems to teeter on the brink of sliding apart when it is standing on edge. It is held together with very fine brass rods which fit tightly into the holes. Consequently it has no back or front and can be turned and viewed from many different angles. Like so much of my work, different viewpoints reveal new planes, shadows and interacting grid patterns.
