The structure is a complex three dimensional, three directional plait.
The strips in this piece are of 2 different widths, producing 6 different shaped blocks, which lie at varying angles. The design must be carefully drafted as all the strips are pleated before they are plaited together. Any errors in the order of pleating mean that the whole strip has to be unpicked and scrapped. The structure appears to ripple and areas of shadow have been subtly enhanced with black pencil.
